For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.

2 Corinthians 10: 3-6

Even David, who God referred to as a man after His own heart was at times downcast, saddened and in a depressive state. Psalm 43:5 partly states “Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God”. Therefore, when your soul is cast down or disquieted within you, like David, we should hope in and submit to God then we are able to resist the devil and he will flee from us (James 4:7). We must always keep in mind that any negative thought that comes against us, anything that makes us feel bad is not of God but of the devil. As the scripture says, we must bring every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ and His Word. Strongholds are built on lies and gets stronger and worse overtime. Continually ask God for divine discernment to identify when those lies come.

James 4:8-10 shows us that if we draw near to God, He will draw near to us and once we cleanse our hands, purify our hearts, repent and humble ourselves before Him He will lift us up. Jesus is our savior and deliverer for Joel 2:32 tells us that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved and delivered. Draw near to Him now, call on Him and say this prayer to lift the spirit of heaviness.

Prayer For Depression and Grief:

Dear Heavenly Father, I come humbly before you and repent of my sins. Jesus you are my Lord and savior, purify my heart. I completely submit and surrender myself to You.
Father help me to be alert and conscious and grant me divine discernment to recognize when the enemy comes to attack me. Guard, guide and strengthen me to resist him so that he will flee. Father it is written in Joel 2:32 that that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered. Jesus you are my deliverer, deliver me now from the hands of the enemy and from this spirit of heaviness. Break and destroy any and all strongholds in my life. Heal my soul. Holy Spirit comfort me. Fill me with your Holy Spirit, Your pure joy and Shalom peace. By faith I receive my deliverance and freedom and I thank You Lord for setting me free. I pray this prayer in Jesus’ Mighty Name, Amen.

Whatever you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive as long it’s God’s will (Matthew 21:22). Jesus came to give liberty to all, so it is His will for everyone to be free for if the Son sets you free, you shall be free indeed (John 8:36). Now that you have said the above prayer, receive your freedom in faith and keep thanking God for setting you free.

The thief comes only in order to steal and kill and destroy but Jesus came that we may have life, and have it in abundance [to the full, till it overflows] (John 10:10). Be sober [well balanced and self-disciplined], be alert and cautious at all times because our enemy, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion [fiercely hungry], seeking someone to devour. The enemy only has power if you give it to him, by himself, he has absolutely no power. Don’t allow the enemy and give the enemy power over your soul (mind, will and emotions). The enemy studies us and knows our weaknesses and how to bombard us with certain thoughts that may negatively affect us. Be always sober, alert and cautious so when He comes to steal, kill and destroy you, your happiness and joy and tries to devour you with negative thoughts, remember why Jesus came, for you to be free and have life and have it in abundance. Real and pure joy is only found in Christ Jesus for it is written in Nehemiah 8:10 to not grieve, be dejected or sad for the joy of the Lord is your strength.

Having a deeper and more intimate relationship with God and staying daily in the Word would help you better discern in your thought life and find and keep that deep joy and peace down in your heart.

To keep delivered, be vigilant and conscious of and recognize the devil’s lies, cast it down, punishing all disobedience (2 Corinthians 10:6). Tell the devil that he is a liar, remind him that you are delivered and free and meditate and quote any one of these scriptures in this post that comes against his lies in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. Say what God says about you in His Word and know how important, dearly loved and who you are in Him. The real battle is in your mind and with this strategy you will overcome, and the enemy will flee from you. Even if you don’t feel like it, fight for your freedom that Jesus suffered and died to give you!

God’s Word is powerful, it is our rod, our indestructible weapon of our warfare. According to Ephesians 6:17 the word of God is the Sword of the Spirit, a part of the armor of God that we should put on daily for spiritual protection. When you cast down the devil’s lies meditate on things of above, whatever is true, noble, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous or praiseworthy (Philippians 4:8 NKJV) and on the Word of God and gain God’s joy, peace, strength and victory. So a man thinketh so is he (Proverbs 23:7) or so does he become.

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 states, that His grace is sufficient for us, His strength is made perfect in weakness and when we are weak, then we are strong. When we are at our weakest we are at our strongest because we draw our strength from God, acquiring supernatural strength. In the scripture we see that He gives us sufficient grace for any season that we are in. Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted (Matthew 5:4). As a believer in Jesus Christ, you have the Holy Spirit in you and according to John 14:26 the Holy Spirit is your helper and comforter. Therefore, ask the Holy Spirit to comfort you when you are down.

Isaiah 61:3 shows us also that we should put on the garment of praise to fight against the spirit of heaviness, and He will give you beauty for your ashes and oil of joy for your mourning. He will set on high those who are lowly and those who mourn are lifted to safety (Job 5:11). Even though you may not feel it, keep meditating, speaking, and believing the Word of God and praise Him and your feelings will change. Weeping may endure for a night, but know that joy comes in the morning (Psalm 30:5)!

Meditate and quote out loud these scriptures…

TO HELP STRENGTHEN YOU:

2 Corinthians 12:9-10:

“And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness. ”Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

Philippians 4:13 NKJV:

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Isaiah 41:10:

Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’

Psalm 28:7-8:

The Lord is my strength and my shield;
My heart trusted in Him, and I am helped;
Therefore my heart greatly rejoices,
And with my song I will praise Him.

The Lord is their strength,
And He is the saving refuge of His anointed.

Nehemiah 8:10:

Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.

TO SHOW YOU WHERE TO PLACE YOUR HOPE:

Psalm 43:5:

Why are you cast down, O my soul?
And why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God;
For I shall yet praise Him,
The help of my countenance and my God.

Philippians 4:8:

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

John 16:33:

These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.

TO REMIND YOU OF GOD'S PROMISES THAT ARE TRUE AND SURE:

Deuteronomy 31:8:

And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed.”

Psalm 40:1-3:

I waited patiently for the Lord;
And He inclined to me,
And heard my cry.
He also brought me up out of a horrible pit,
Out of the miry clay,
And set my feet upon a rock,
And established my steps.
He has put a new song in my mouth—
Praise to our God;
Many will see it and fear,
And will trust in the Lord.

Psalm 34:17:

The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears,
And delivers them out of all their troubles.

Joel 2:32:

 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be delivered

Isaiah 61:3:

To console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.

Job 5:11:

He sets on high those who are lowly, and those who mourn are lifted to safety.

TO reassure yourself of how much you are loved by jesus and what he did for you:

John 8:36:

Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

Romans 8:38-39:

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

John 10:10:

The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
