The Father Who Provides: Jehovah Jireh

And Abraham said, “My son, God will provide himself a lamb for a burnt offering”: so they went both of them together… And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son. And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah-jireh: as it is said to this day, In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen.

Genesis 22: 8,13-14

Jehovah Jireh (Yhvh Yireh) in the Strong’s Concordance (3070) means “The LORD Will Provide”. It comes from Yhovah and ra’ah; Jehovah will see (to it); Jehovah-Jireh, a symbolical name for Mount Moriah — Jehovah- jireh.

Messianic Rabbi Jonathan Cahn, in one of his teachings about the mysteries of the Bible explains the profound biblical pattern connecting the Akedah (Abraham’s binding of Isaac) to the crucifixion of Jesus.

The divine revelation presents God’s command to Abraham not merely as a test of faith, but as a divine blueprint and foreshadow that would be fulfilled 2,000 years later and that this event was a prophetic rehearsal for the ultimate sacrifice of God’s own Son.

Cahn explains that in a covenant relationship, both parties must be willing to match each other’s commitment, and this test was to seal Abraham’s covenant with God. Since God asked Abraham to sacrifice his beloved son, God Himself became bound by covenant to make the same sacrifice.

The Prophetic Parallels are undeniable; Cahn maps out the striking correspondences:
• The donkey journey to the place of sacrifice (connecting to Palm Sunday)
• The son carrying the sacrificial wood (prefiguring Christ carrying the cross)
• The binding upon the wood
• The father's raised hand, ready to strike

The crucial difference between the two parallels is that while God’s angel stopped Abraham’s hand, no one stopped God from sacrificing His one and only Beloved Son. The pattern that began with Abraham found its ultimate fulfillment at Calvary, on Mount Moriah where God said He would provide a lamb to sacrifice, which He did- Jesus, a sinless spotless lamb.

Cahn points out that “love” (Ahava) appears for the first time in the Bible in this very account – the father’s love for his son. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16).

This reinforces the special Fatherly love God has for us, expressed through Jesus, who voluntarily sacrificed His life to tear the veil that separated us from God’s divine presence, granting us direct access to a genuine relationship with our Heavenly Father—the absolute and Holy God.

Rabbi Cahn also profoundly implies that if God was willing to sacrifice the Son He loves infinitely for humanity, then His love for each person must be equal to His love for His Son – the greatest love in existence. There’s truly no greater love than this. To learn how much God loves you and how we can show how much we love Him by loving others read my blog post “No Greater Love” here: https://absolutetruth7.com/no-greater-love/

What does “provision” mean? In the Meriam Webster’s 1828 dictionary it means the act of providing or making previous preparation; measures taken beforehand, either for security, defense or attack, or for the supply of wants. On Mount Moriah, where Abraham’s covenant with God was sealed and where Jesus was crucified, Jehovah Jireh did indeed saw to it, with measures taken beforehand, and provided for us.

God’s perfect plan of salvation through Jesus, our Redeemer, was known before the foundations of the earth meaning, before man even existed according to 1 Peter 1:20, “He was known before the foundation of the world but was revealed in the last times for your sake.” Ephesians 1:11 also states, “In Him we were also chosen as God’s own, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything by the counsel of His will.”

God’s plan and Jesus’ work on the cross was indeed a perfect work that provided and covered everything. Derek Prince highlighted these provisions and divine exchanges perfectly:
- Jesus was punished, that we might be forgiven. (Isaiah 53:4-5)
- Jesus was wounded, that we might be healed. (Isaiah 53:4-5)
- Jesus was made sin with our sinfulness, that we might be made righteous with His righteousness. (Isaiah 53:10; 2 Corinthians 5:21)
- Jesus died our death, that we might receive His life. (Hebrews 2:9)
- Jesus was made a curse, that we might enter into the blessing. (Galatians 3:13-14)
- Jesus endured our poverty, that we might share His abundance. (2 Corinthians 8:9; 2 Corinthians 9:8)
- Jesus bore our shame, that we might share His glory. (Matthew 27:35-36; Hebrews 12:2; Hebrews 2:9)
- Jesus endured rejection, that we might have His acceptance with the Father. (Matthew 27:46-51; Ephesians 1:5-6)
- Jesus was cut off by death that we might be joined to God eternally. (Isaiah 53:8; 1 Corinthians 6:17)
- Our old man was put to death in Him that the new man might come to life in us. (Romans 6:6; Colossians 3:9-10)

My entire life I’ve heard about God being Jehovah Jireh the God who provides, but I never truly understood or grasped the revelation of it until God opened my eyes and understanding to it. I hope and pray that you too receive and is impacted by this incredible revelation.

God granted us free will because He wanted us to choose Him, to choose to love Him, nothing forced. We also have the choice to choose where our provision comes from and from where we depend upon for those provisions. We can rely on our own works through our job or businesses or whatever else, or we could rely on God.

A good father provides for his children, and our God is the greatest Father ever. It’s important to highlight here that that He provides only for His children. Who are God’s children? There’s a false doctrine spreading like a disease upon the earth today that there are multiple ways to heaven and to God, I feel the need to address.

Don’t be deceived and believe this lie because there’s only ONE way to God in heaven. No religion will get you there either. There’s only one path to divine sonship with God and that is through Jesus Christ. Not religion but a relationship with Him who has set us free and free we are indeed! (John 8:36)

Religion typically centers on doctrines, rituals, and human-made structures designed to reach God through personal effort and works-based salvation – a concept that directly contradicts biblical truth. Scripture clearly teaches that salvation is God’s gift, not something we earn. Ephesians 2:8-9 declares: “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”

However, good works do play a vital role in the believer’s life – but as evidence of salvation, not the means to it. Ephesians 2:10 explains that after salvation, we become “God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” These works flow naturally from a transformed heart, not from religious obligation.

James 2:14-26 reinforces this truth, teaching that genuine faith will inevitably produce good deeds. When James says faith without works is “dead,” he’s not promoting works-based salvation but rather demonstrating that authentic faith transforms behavior. True faith saves us, then expresses itself through righteous living – works become the fruit of salvation, not its root.

The distinction is crucial: religion says “do good to be saved,” while the Gospel says “through Jesus Christ you are saved, therefore do good.”

In John 14:6, Jesus establishes Himself as the singular pathway to God, declaring “I am the way and the truth and the life” – leaving no alternative route to the Father. This exclusive access becomes reality through faith, as John 1:12 reveals that those “who did receive him, who believed in his name” are granted “the right to become children of God.” Galatians 3:26 affirms this transformation: “For in Christ Jesus you are all sons of God, through faith.”

Yet 1 John 4:15 unveils the stunning depth of this divine adoption – that “anyone who confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him and he in God.” This transcends mere legal standing; it’s the breathtaking reality of mutual indwelling with the Almighty God and Creator. And as 2 Corinthians 5:17 declares, this union creates something entirely unprecedented: “if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”

The believer doesn’t simply gain heaven’s benefits – their spirit man comes alive, they become heaven’s dwelling place, being born again they’re transformed at the very core of their being into something that never existed before: a new creation housing the infinite God.

This is the Absolute Truth that through confession and faith in Jesus as the Son of God, believers don’t just gain access to heaven someday – they enter into the most intimate relationship possible: God makes His home in them, and they make their home in God. Divine sonship becomes divine communion, where the infinite God chooses to dwell within finite hearts that have acknowledged His Son.

God as our Creator, knows us better than we know ourselves therefore He knows what would truly make us happy that’s why He sometimes withholds things from us if it were to draw us away from Him or may destroy or harm us or our relationship with Him.

God does use our job or businesses to provide but they are not the source but only a means. God can use any means to provide for us. In 1 Kings 17:1-6, Elijah had just delivered God’s judgment to the wicked King Ahab, declaring a drought, but God supernaturally provided for Elijah.

After delivering this prophetic word, God commanded Elijah to hide by the Brook Cherith, east of the Jordan River. There, God arranged for the ravens to bring him bread and meat twice daily – morning and evening, the brook provided water for drinking, and this continued for an extended period during the drought.

This provision was remarkable for many reasons:
• Ravens were unclean birds according to Jewish law, yet God used them as His delivery service
• During a severe drought and famine, God ensured His prophet never lacked
• The timing was perfect - the birds came like clockwork twice daily
• It demonstrated God's sovereignty over nature and His ability to provide through the most unlikely means.

This miracle showed that while God’s judgment fell on the land through drought, He faithfully cared for His faithful servant. It also revealed God’s power over creation – the same God who shut the heavens could command birds to become caterers.

Eventually the brook dried up, and God sent Elijah to Zarephath, where He provided through a widow’s miraculous jar of oil and flour – showing that God’s provision never fails, though His methods may change.

No matter what situation you may find yourself in, know that even in the toughest and most impossible circumstances God will provide, and may even use the most unlikely people and methods to make it happen. Don’t focus on how big your problem is but on how big your God is. He is not a natural God but a supernatural God who is faithful and true to His Word.

Doing anything in our own works will always prove to be futile, it would feel daunting and like a chore. You would be working hard night and day and trying and trying and still not getting ahead or moving forward in any way, but just oscillating in one spot. Sometimes you may even be going backwards.

If you’re trying to provide and grow your provisions solely by your own works, I encourage you to stop now. Invite Jesus and the Holy Spirit in whatever you’re doing and ask for His grace, strength, guidance and direction. Where man fails Jesus never fails and with God all things are possible (Matthew 19:26).

Ask God to open your eyes to the divine revelation that He and only Him is your provision, not your job, not your business, not the government and certainly not your rich grandma that’s about to go meet the Lord. When you realize this and internalize this revelation you would never be worried or anxious where your provisions are coming from.

Remember that when you worry and are anxious it is sin because anything that’s not from faith is sin (Romans 14:23) and by doing this you inhibit God from working. Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus(Philippians 4:6-7).

You cannot be praying and saying you believe in God to provide and are worrying and saying things contrary to what you’re praying for. What you are doing is cancelling out your prayers and in fact you are not believing. Believing is the key. Matthew 21:22 states that if you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer, but when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind and that person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord (James 1:6-7).

I’m not saying you must do nothing and just wait for ravens to come and knock you on your head with some food. I will always remember what Pastor Joseph Prince once said, “God can’t bless a parked car.” If you have a need, be proactive about it but not in your own strength, do it with God, fast and pray and seek God diligently for His divine wisdom, knowledge, understanding, guidance and direction.

Be sure to thank Him and praise Him for the answer and thank Him for providing the need even before you see it in the natural for, we walk by faith not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). Once you’ve done this His shalom peace will overtake you as you fully trust in Him, Jehovah Jireh, your provider.

It is crucial that you take time to listen to Him and be sure to obey Him because obedience is better than sacrifice (1 Samuel 15:22). Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take (Proverbs 3:6). Always remember His will is His word, by reading the Bible you already know what His will is for your life, plans for peace and well-being, to prosper you and not for disaster or calamity, not to harm you, but plans to give you hope and a future, an expected end (Jeremiah 29:11).

We ought to trust God as little children. After all He is our Abba Father, as born-again believers in Christ we have received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, ‘Abba, Father’ (Romans 8:15). If you didn’t have a good earthly father just know, you have the best Heavenly Father who has adopted you for His own and loves you more than you can ever imagine. He made you to love you.

‘Abba’ is an Aramaic term meaning “Father” that Jesus and early Christians used to convey profound intimacy with God – similar to saying “Papa” or “Daddy” – while simultaneously expressing deep reverence and recognition of God’s divine authority and paternal power.

Deuteronomy 2:7 (KJV) states, “The Lord your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast wilderness. These forty years the Lord your God has been with you, and you have not lacked anything.”

This scripture highlights two important details, one that it was the Lord who blessed the Israelites and two, they didn’tlack a thing for forty years, meaning they wore the same clothes and shoes, and it grew with them and never wore down as the years went by. He also provided manna from heaven to eat! That is incredible supernatural provision, and our God is the same yesterday, today and forevermore. The same way He supernaturally provided for Elijah and the Israelites He is able to do the same for you and me today. All we have to do is believe and receive.

Don’t ever believe the lie from the pit of hell that God will ever allow or give you anything bad, even a sickness to teach you something because every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights who doesn’t change like the shifting shadows (James 1:17). God by His character cannot do wrong because He is light and in Him there is no darkness at all (1 John 1:5). He will on the other hand take what enemy meant for your harm and turn it around for your good (Genesis 50:20).

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap (Galatians 6:7), this includes both ways, good and bad. If you sow bad, you’ll reap bad and vice versa. Many times, we blame God for the attacks of the enemy and sometimes these attacks are caused by us, our actions leaving open a window for the enemy to attack, which isn’t fair to God.

And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love (Romans 8:38).

No matter what mess we may get ourselves in, no matter how bad it is, we can always go to God and repent because in 1 John 1:9 He promises that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. To find out more about true repentance read my blog post “From Death to Life” here: https://absolutetruth7.com/from-death-to-life/

Since He did not spare even His own Son but gave Him up for us all, won’t He also give us everything else? (Romans 8:32). There’s absolutely no good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly (Psalm 84:11). He also promises to supply all your needs according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19).

A part of walking uprightly is making sure, with a good heart, to give God what is owed to Him and not rob Him by withholding your tithes and offerings, otherwise you will be cursed with a curse (Malachi 3: 8-9). For more about wealth and prosperity read my blog post “Go Forth and Prosper” here: https://absolutetruth7.com/category/go-forth-and-prosper/

The key also is believing that Jesus’ work on the cross was a perfect work and as mentioned earlier as one of the exchanges- Jesus endured our poverty, that we might share His abundance. (2 Corinthians 8:9; 2 Corinthians 9:8). He became poor so that we could become rich. We aren’t to become rich for our own selfish desires, but we are blessed to be a blessing to others (Genesis 12:2-3).

Matthew 6:8 says that your Father in heaven knows exactly what you need even before you ask Him therefore your needs are covered. You do not have because you do not ask God and when you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures (James 4:2-3).

Careful, don’t lose focus! You must concentrate and seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you (Matthew 6:33) but you must seek Him diligently, for God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6).

Matthew 6:31, 33 states, “So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ … But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.”

If you feel like you’ve been working so hard, praying, decreeing and declaring the scriptures and you notice that you still aren’t advancing, there may be a demonic spirit like the spirit of poverty, that could possibly be attacking and oppressing you, but as a believer in Christ you are not to worry because the blood that was shed on the cross by Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior has fully and completely redeemed you from all the powers of darkness.

Evoke and engage the blood to shut the enemy down at its onslaught and ask your Heavenly Father to divinely intervene and arise to dismantle, destroy and scatter your enemies. 2 Chronicles 20:15, 17 says we are not to be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army, for the battle is not ours, but God’s, all we need to do is take up our positions, stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give us.

Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart (Psalm 37:4). He places His desires in your heart when you delight yourself in Him. A lot of times ‘in the waiting’ and ‘in the meantime” it gets difficult, and it could truly be a mean time but it’s all about how we wait and the attitude we have while we wait.

A bad attitude can keep us back and show God we aren’t ready. In these times when you feel down and the enemy is coming hard against you feeding you lies, know and remind yourself that God is faithful and true and start to praise and worship God for who He is, what He has done, is doing and is about to do for you and God will inhabit the praises of His people (Psalm 22:3).

We must take on the attitude of Paul and lean on God like he did in Philippians 4:12-13 where he stated, “I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Instead of thinking and asking God for things for yourself, ask Him what He would want you do for Him. After all, we have been bought at a high price, so glorify God in your body (1 Corinthians 6:20). Our lives are not our own, it belongs to Jesus and in view of God’s mercy, offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, Holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship (Romans 12:1). We are only here on this earth to fulfill a divine purpose and destiny for God.

To live the life, He died to give us so that we might have life and a life more abundantly (John 10:10). Our God Jehovah Jireh, our Provider, is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask, think or imagine, according to the power at work within us (Ephesians 3:20) fully sponsored by our Savior Jesus Christ who paid it all and in full, all we have to do is believe, receive and never doubt our Heavenly Father, who owns all the riches in the universe.

Pray to your Heavenly Father this powerful prayer below and be sure to check out the financial declarations below it.

Abba, Father! I thank you for adopting me and making me your own. Thank you for making a way for us to have a relationship and be reconciled with you through your beloved Son, Jesus Christ. Father, thank you for always providing and taking care of me. Thank you for your promise that you shall supply all our needs according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). I totally surrender to you, I repent of all of my sins, and I make Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior. Wash me clean and help me to best represent you here on this earth. Father as an act of my will, and as your child I evoke and engage the blood that was shed on the cross by Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior which has fully and completely redeemed me from all the powers of darkness. I shut the enemy down at its onslaught, I break any yoke of darkness upon my life, and I cancel any evil plans of the enemy against me and my family. I ask you Heavenly Father to divinely intervene and arise to dismantle, destroy and scatter my enemies for 2 Chronicles 20:15, 17 says we are not to be afraid or discouraged because of this vast army, for the battle is not ours, but God’s, all we need to do is take up our positions, stand firm and see the deliverance the Lord will give us. I do so now. Thank you, Jesus, that you will deliver me from any evil spirit that may be coming against me and my prosperity, and anything inhibiting me from receiving your provisions. Jehovah Jireh, my provider, you are more than enough, without you I am and have nothing but with you I have everything, and I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me from within (Philippians 4:13). Thank you for being such a good Father to me. I love you forever. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

The declarations below were written by Charles Capps, who was a great man of God, they can be found in his book “God’s Creative Power for Finances”. You can print them out or save it on your phone to have them more easily accessible to you.

These declarations are incredibly powerful; decree and declare them on a daily basis and if you can, multiple times a day. You can open your bank account and proclaim them into there. You can also lay out all your outstanding bills and debts on your table, put your hands over them and speak the declarations over them. Be sure to speak it with authority knowing and believing that’s your inheritance through Christ Jesus.

Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers (3 John 1:2).
