When David defeated Goliath, 1 Samuel 17:54 tells us that David brought Goliath’s head to Jerusalem. Biblical scholars believe that Calvary, the hill just outside Jerusalem, where Jesus was crucified, is where David buried Goliaths head. In the Strong’s Concordance (No. G2898), Calvary as found in Luke 23:33 is defined as “a skull”. Matthew 27:33 directly states, “And when they were come unto a place called Golgotha, that is to say, a place of a skull”. Mark 15:22 states, “And they bring Him unto the place Golgotha, which is, being interpreted, The place of a skull”. John 19:17 states, “And He bearing His cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha”.
Rick Shenk from the Bethlehem College & Seminary states the following:
“Whether or not Goliath of Gath is the correct etymology of Golgotha, it was in this very city to which the head of Goliath was taken. It was on this very hill where Jesus’ feet were pierced by the nails. It was in this very place that he crushed the head of the Serpent.”
Genesis 3:15 states that the seed of the woman shall bruise the serpents head and it shall bruise His heel. Jesus’ crucifixion on the cross over the head of Goliath signified that all of His enemies will be put under His feet. It signifies His ultimate defeat over Satan, the serpent and all His enemies. For He must reign until He has put all His enemies under His feet (1 Corinthians 15:25).
His victory became our victory since we are joint heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17). But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:57). We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us (Romans 8:37). We have been redeemed and restored by the blood of Jesus Christ.
Jesus’ journey to Golgotha was predestined way before David defeated Goliath, since before the beginning of time. He was chosen before the creation of the world (1 Peter 1:20). This journey is our redemption story strategically planned by God through our savior Jesus Christ. In hope of eternal life, which God, who never lies, promised before the ages began (Titus 1:2).
Just like Jesus we all have our own destinies and purposes to fulfill in this life which were created before our very existence. Psalm 139:16 states, “You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed.”
No eye has seen, no ear has heard, and no mind has imagined what God has prepared for those who love him (1 Corinthians 2:9).
In this life we can make many plans, but it is the Lord who determines our steps (Proverbs 16:9) and it is the purpose of the Lord alone that prevails (Proverbs 19:21). Our God who created us knows us better than we know ourselves, therefore only He knows what is truly best for us. Our Heavenly Father has great plans and thoughts for us. Plans of good and not of evil, plans for peace, well-being and prosperity and not for disaster or calamity, to give us a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11).
Our sole purpose and main objective here on earth is not to get the good job, the big house, the fancy car or whatever else but to fulfill our destiny God purposed for us here on this earth. God blesses us with earthly things in order to fulfill our destiny but to put earthly things the main goal or objective is wrong. When we do so we make it ‘god’ in our lives, idolize it and make it the center of our lives therefore breaking the first commandment which states that we shall have no other gods before Him ( Exodus 20:3). We are called to seek first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto us (Matthew 6:33).
The fact is that when we pass on and go to heaven, we are not going to carry any earthly things with us that’s why we are to store up our treasures not on earth but in heaven where moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Matthew: 6: 19-21).
For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them (Ephesians 2:10). In this world it may be difficult to always perform those good works, but we are not to become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up (Galatians 6:9). Jesus commanded us to love others (see blog post about “Commanded to Love” for more).
Once an egg is fertilized in the womb, Prophet Robin Bullock (from a revelation from God) reveals that God drops your Spirit filled with your destiny from within Himself, into the fertilized egg and when He does that a spark of life, an actual flash of light occurs. When that spark occurred your destiny is written, imprinted and burnt in your flesh, dirt and DNA by your spirit. This is what makes a person who they are, their talents, likes and dislikes, etc. God breathed the breath of life and the man became a living soul (Genesis 2:7).
Whether or not we fulfill our destiny, it is for us to decide.
How do we know or get to know His will and purpose for our lives? His will is His Word. The bible is full of His will, blessings and promises for all of us. It’s in finding out who we are in Christ that we find out who we are and what we are destined for. He is no respecter of persons (Romans 2:11) therefore all of His blessings and promises are for all of His precious children.
Before we were born again, we were spiritually dead and of this world but when we come to Christ, our Spirit comes alive with the Holy Spirit. When become alive in Christ we are made a new creature: old things have passed away behold all things are become new (2 Corinthians 5:17). To all who did receive Him, who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God (John 1:12).
Jesus said that if we want to be His follower, we must deny ourselves and take up our cross daily and follow Him (Luke 9:23) and His example that He set before us during His time here on earth. If we belong to Christ Jesus, we will crucify the flesh with its selfish passions and desires (Galatians 5:24).
When we submit our will for His will, he slowly reveals our destiny to us. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:5-6).
Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed (Proverbs 16:3). In all you say, do and think, do it in excellence and unto the Lord so that it may be pleasing to Him knowing that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward (Colossians 3:23-24). When people’s lives please the Lord, even their enemies are at peace with them (Proverbs 16:7).
Since His will is His word, we are to be in the Word, feeding our spirit man, getting our daily bread. When we feed our spirit our soul prospers, therefore we shall prosper and be in good health just as our soul prospers (2 John 1:2).
His word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105). When we know the word and understand what is on God’s heart, we gain knowledge, wisdom, and understanding which will help us make right decisions which will in turn lead us on the good and righteous path to fulfilling our destiny. James 1:22 calls us to be doers of the word and not hearers only, deceiving ourselves.
Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.
James 3:13
The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding (Proverbs 9:10).
For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding (Proverbs 2:6). James 1:5 tells us that if any of us lack wisdom, all we need to do is ask God for it, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. James makes this truth be known to us and then further solidifies it at the end, taking away any doubt you may have. Therefore, there’s no question about it, ask, and it will be given to you.
To the person who pleases him, God gives wisdom, knowledge and happiness, but to the sinner he gives the task of gathering and storing up wealth to hand it over to the one who pleases God (Ecclesiastes 2:26). The wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere (James 3:17).
For wisdom’s profit is better than the profit of silver and her gain better than fine gold (Proverbs 3:14). The many other rewards of wisdom could be found in Proverbs 3. This Easter and regularly, pray this special prayer below to cleanse yourself and to ask God for wisdom.
Keep in mind Satan will fight against you fulfilling your destiny and do things to distract or put you off course. Stay in prayer, commit all you do to Him and feed your spirit man with daily bread from the Bible. Take up your cross daily, keep your eyes fixated on Him, never wavering and you shall fulfill your God-given destiny.
Prayer for Spiritual Purity and Wisdom
Father God who can understand his errors? Cleanse me from secret faults. Keep back Your servant also from presumptuous sins; Let them not have dominion over me. Then I shall be blameless, And I shall be innocent of great transgression. Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in Your sight, O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer. (Psalms 19:12-14 NKJV)
Lord, I can only understand my errors by knowing your Word. Father grant me more discipline on a daily basis to eat of my daily bread, the bread of life that is your Word and feed my spirit man. Grant me divine wisdom, knowledge and understanding.
Father help me to always focus and give attention to your words and incline my ear to your sayings. May they never depart from my eyes and help me to keep them in the midst of my heart. For they are life to those who find them and health to all their flesh.
Help me to keep and guard my heart with all diligence, for out of it springs the issues of life. Help me put away from me a deceitful mouth and put perverse lips far from me. May my eyes look straight ahead and my eyelids look right before me. May the path of my feet be on the good and righteous path and let all my ways be established. May they never turn right or left and help me always to remove my feet from evil. (Psalm 4:20-27 NKJV)
I submit my will for Your will for my life so that I may fulfill my God-given destiny and purpose.
I also pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to me the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, the eyes of my understanding being enlightened; that I may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come. And He put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all. (Ephesians 1: 16-23 NKJV)
For this reason I bow my knees to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, from whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, that He would grant me, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in my heart through faith; that I, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that I may be filled with all the fullness of God. Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. (Ephesians 3: 14-21 NKJV)
The Lord of hosts has sworn: “As I have planned, so shall it be, and as I have purposed, so shall it stand (Isaiah 14:24).
I do proclaim that the Lord will fulfill his purpose for me; your steadfast love, O Lord, endures forever. Do not forsake the work of your hands. (Psalm 138:8) and I am sure of this, that He who began a good work in me will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ (Philippians 1:6). I ask all this in your name Lord Jesus, Amen.
