After resurrection day when Jesus was risen from the dead and was seated at the right hand of God, Jesus was transformed, His eyes, like a flame of fire, on His head, many crowns, out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations and, on His robe and on His thigh a name written: “KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS” (Revelation 19:12,15-16). Just like Jesus was transformed, fifty (50) days after the resurrection on Pentecost, the disciples were also transformed receiving the Holy Spirit and so are we transformed as believers.
According to Matthew 3:11, when we are baptized by water it is a choice we make unto repentance (to change our inner self, our old way of thinking, regretting our sin to live a changed life accepting Jesus as our Lord and Savior) as we give ourselves to God gaining life, but Jesus himself, will baptize those who are truly repentant with the Holy Spirit and fire. When you are baptized by the Holy Spirit and fire, just like the disciples in the upper room we shall receive supernatural manifested power by evidence of speaking in tongues as the Spirit enables (Acts: 2:4) and walk in boldness, power, and authority.
Through this power we can boldly minister and testify about Jesus with great effect (Acts 1:8).
We are also able to work in the gifts of the Spirit, as the Spirit gives and enables for the profit of all; one may receive a word of wisdom, special knowledge, supernatural faith, gift of healing, power to perform miracles, the ability to prophesy, discerning of spirits and to speak in various tongues (1 Corinthians 12: 7-10). Only the Holy Ghost distributes these gifts (1 Corinthians 12: 11).
Luke 11:13 states how much more will our Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him. If you earnestly yearn and seek the outpouring of the Holy Ghost upon you, all you must do is go to Jesus according to John the Baptist in Matthew 3:11 and ask, believe and you will receive.
During and after saying the prayer below, open your hands, palms facing upward and by faith, expectantly receive and envision the Holy Spirit coming and remaining upon you like He did Jesus in the river Jordan (Matthew 3:16; John 1:32). Completely and willingly surrender and yield yourself to the Holy Spirit. John 7:38 states that out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. Therefore, wait a couple of minutes and by faith, coming from out of your belly release the flow and try to speak in tongues. You can even start by saying small syllables or words and build up from there.
According to Derek Prince, Satan’s objective is to feed you two lies during this process: 1) You’re doing it yourself and 2) Make you question whether you got the right thing. These two things you must keep in mind so that you cast down those thoughts immediately. Any sound that comes out your mouth, yes you may be speaking but it’s all coming from the Spirit. Also, according to Luke 11: 9-13 if you ask the Father for something good, He will never give you anything bad.
Keep in mind that once you start to speak in tongues the spirit of pride may want to come to make you prideful that you’ve received this gift, but this too must you cast down. Any believer of Jesus Christ is able to speak in tongues.
Sometimes you may not get to speak in tongues right away keep praying, asking, seeking, and knocking for the ability and don’t lose hope, it will come, the door will be opened in His timing. In my personal experience I did not receive it until a couple months after yet I kept praying, believing and seeking it out. I needed to overcome certain things in my life, eliminate the noise around and clear my mind to get to a place to receive and in His timing it came to pass. It’s crucial that you clear your mind and focus during this process. Earnestly and sincerely say this prayer below:
Heavenly father, I humbly come before you and I accept and confess that Jesus Christ is my Lord and savior and that He rose again on the third day for the forgiveness of my sins. Father I repent of all of my sins, if there’s any secret pride, unconfessed sin, rebellion, resentment, hatred or unforgiveness in my heart, I loose it all now from my soul in Jesus’ name and ask for your forgiveness. I also loose myself from Satan and any occult power, from all soul ties and I break any covenants that have been made by my spirit with any evil spirit in Jesus’ name. I believe that the blood of Jesus cleanses me and washes me clean now, whiter than snow and by faith I receive Him into my life and into my heart. I completely surrender and commit myself to You. I give up all my personal desires and will for my life for Yours. Jesus, I come to you and ask you to baptize me in the Holy Spirit and fire. Ignite a fire and passion within me to know and follow Your Word and strengthen my relationship with you Jesus. I surrender my body to you to be a temple of the Holy Spirit. Fill me full now with your Spirit. I fully yield my tongue to the Holy Spirit so that I may pray perfect prayers in the Spirit directly to you Father. I may not know sometimes what to pray but the Holy Spirit knows best therefore I yield to the Spirit. Jesus I also seek and earnestly covet the gifts of the Spirit. By faith Jesus, I receive Your outpouring of Your Holy Ghost and my distributed gifts of the Spirit now in Jesus’ name and I thank you for it. May Your glory dwell within me forever and may You help me to stand firm against the evil one. In Jesus’ mighty name I pray, Amen.
Walk boldly and confidently in Power that He suffered and died to give you. For it was by His grace that you were saved by faith, nothing we could ever do to earn salvation for it was a free love gift from God that brought us to Christ so no one will ever be able to boast, for salvation is never a reward for good works or human striving (Ephesians 2:8-9 TPT).
